The 2022 American Humane Hero Dog Awards will be announced on Veterans Day!

The American Humane organization is hosting its annual Hero Dog Awards — with the announcement of the winner coming on Veterans Day 2022.  American Humane was founded in 1877, and was the country’s first national humane organization committed to animals.

The Hero Dog Awards is a competition held to recognize America’s Hero Dogs in seven different categories: law enforcement and detection, service, therapy, military, search and rescue, guide/hearing and shelter dogs.

This year, there were four hundred submissions and over a million votes to narrow down the field. The seven finalists are true heroes who demonstrate courage through their brave stories. While some of these extraordinary dogs enhance the lives of people in need, others protect and serve their country and local communities.

The president and CEO of American Humane, Dr. Robin Ganzert, said in an interview with Fox News Digital that the awards are very special to her. “Dogs competing in the Hero Dog Awards come from all across the country and are each unique in their own way,” she said.

Ganzert added, “But what is universal is the love and joy that each brings to the lives of those around them. We all need more light and love in our lives, and that is what the Hero Dog Awards is all about.”

But don’t forget! Behind every beloved pet is a great veterinarian or veterinary nurse who dedicates their lives to helping our animal friends. These individuals are celebrated through the American Humane Hero Veterinarian and Hero Veterinary Nurse Awards™, sponsored by Zoetis. The winning veterinarian and veterinary nurse will also be announced at the Hero Dog Awards gala.

The winner will be chosen by a combination of public votes and decisions from a judging panel. The judges include celebrities Ariel Winter and Alison Sweeney.  All Hero Dog finalists will make their way to Palm Beach, Florida to be celebrated at the star-studded American Humane Hero Dog Awards® gala on November 11.

You can meet past winners and this year’s finalists at the American Humane website.
