According to sports.yahoo.com, The Texas Rangers fired manager Chris Woodward despite spending over $500 million in the offseason. The Texas Rangers have confirmed the news and that the interim manager was named as being Tony Beasley for the time being.
The decision came months after spending $325 million on Corey Seager and $175 million on Marcus Semien and another $56 million on Jon Gray. Despite all that money, the team is still 51-63 heading for its fourth straight season below .500. In four years with the team from 2018-2022, Chris Woodward went 211 and 287 for his overall record, leading to his firing.
The fact the team was underperforming was more than enough for the team to fire Woodward, despite performing slightly better than it had previously. The team may even see postseason contention if they continue to have another strong off-season. The front office will need to solve what will help the team push forward and find a manager capable of making the most out of the roster they have. The Texas Rangers have not reached a postseason since 2016.
