Tbilisi Street Style

Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, reflects a long, complicated history, with periods under Persian and Russian rule and encompassing diverse architecture from Eastern Orthodox churches to Soviet Modernist buildings. Well now it’s old cobblestoned streets have launched a new street style as the spring 2019 collections have made their way to Fashion Week there.

This small country has been an up-and-comer in the fashion world, thanks to designers like Demna Gvasalia, who hails from the area and now heads up fashion houses Balenciaga and Vetements, as well as rising stars George Keburia and Irakli Rusadze of the cutting edge label Situationist.

But outside of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week runways, the cobblestone street style modeled by the young trendsetters of Tbilisi have practically stolen the show. From snake motifs to scarlet red space buns to orange-tinted flame glasses, their hip throwaway looks have been turning everyone’s heads. Looks like Tbilisi is where the cool kids are to be found these days.
