Taylor Swift’s three-month domination of the Billboard 200 has come to an end, as her album “The Tortured Poets Department” falls from the top spot to No. 4. Released in April, the album enjoyed a 12-week run at No. 1, moving 82,000 units in its 13th week on the chart dated July 27.
Swift’s spot at the top was taken by Eminem, whose latest album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce),” debuted at No. 1 with 281,000 units sold. This marks Eminem’s 11th album to reach the top of the Billboard 200. The No. 2 spot went to K-pop group Enhypen, whose new album “Romance: Untold” sold 124,000 units. Meanwhile, Zach Bryan’s “The Great American Bar Scene” came in at No. 3, moving 88,000 units in its second week.
Despite falling short of 13 consecutive weeks at No. 1 — a number Swift has often called her “lucky number” — “The Tortured Poets Department” achieved significant milestones. It took over a record-breaking top 14 slots on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart upon its release, surpassing her own previous record of 10 slots set by her 2022 album “Midnights.”
The album’s 12 weeks at No. 1 also surpass the record held by her previous albums “Fearless” and “1989,” each of which topped the chart for 11 nonconsecutive weeks. Over its run, “The Tortured Poets Department” faced stiff competition from artists like Zach Bryan, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Gunna, and Swift’s former tourmate Gracie Abrams.
Swift enticed fans with various versions of “The Tortured Poets Department,” including three alternate copies with bonus tracks and a surprise double album released two hours after the original. Additional versions featured live performances of tracks like “loml,” “The Alchemy,” and “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys.”
Currently on her Eras Tour, Swift recently wrapped up three nights in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. While her streak at the top of the Billboard 200 may have ended, the ongoing tour provides her with opportunities to reclaim the No. 1 spot and potentially achieve that coveted 13th week at the top.
