According to deadline.com, Tanya Kersey, founder of the Hollywood Black Film Festival, passed away on Monday due to Cardiac Arrest while in Cucamonga, California at the age of 61 years old. Der death was announced via her daughters Monique Love and Brittany Love and sister Lisa M. Kersey on Facebook. They were quoted in saying, Kersey had been having multiple health problems for many years and “passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.” Prior to founding the film festival, Kersey was also the founder and CEO of an entertainment trade publication titled, Black Talent News, and had prior experience being an entertainment journalist for several publications. She had also started The Kersey Group which was a boutique consulting firm she had founded herself. The Hollywood Black Film Festival had drawn in over 40,000 people over the years and helped to celebrate Black cinema.
