On Saturday night, February 29th, David Byrne returned to Saturday Night Live. His appearance was the first time in over 30 years.
Byrne’s appearance on the late-night comedy sketch show follows his phenomenally successful 20-week extended Broadway run of American Utopia. Byrne dressed up in an all-gray suit, and took the audience back to the 1980s with a theatrical performance of the Talking Heads classic “Once in a Lifetime.”
Byrne also appeared in a music-filled sketch titled “Airport Sushi,” which also featured a cameo by Jake Gyllenhaal. Byrne last appeared on SNL in 1989 to promote his first solo album, Rei Momo.
