SZA’s album, SOS, has debuted at number one on the Billboard chart this week and marked the singer’s first number one album on this chart. SOS sold 318,000 equivalent units in its first week of sales and had 404,58 million on demand streams, SOS tallies the largest streaming week ever for an R&B album. It also is the second largest streaming week in history for an album by a female artist.
The SOS album was released on December 9th from Top Dawg Entertainment and RCA Records. Only a week after its release, it was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The production of SOS was done by Rodney “Darkchild” jerkins, babyface, Leon Thomas, Jay Versace, Rob Bisel, thankgod4cody, Carter Lang, and others.
Thomas spoke of his contribution saying that, “I had met [SZA] before, but this was a great reintroduction to her new world of music. I’m glad that I was able to collaborate with such strong creators… The whole thing came together really fast. She wrote [“Snooze”] in an hour. We weren’t sure if she was going to use it, so it’s a super blessing.”
SZA also recently announced her headlining SOS North America Tour along with her special guest, Omar Apollo. The tour is set to kick off on February 21st, 2023 in Columbus, Ohio, at Schottenstein Center.
In other news, SZA recently announced her headlining SOS North American Tour with special guest Omar Apollo. Then SZA will be performing at arenas in major cities such as Chicago, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Seattle. The tour will wrap up on March 22nd, 2023, at Kia Forum in Los Angeles, California.
