Amid a throng of cheering and waving fans at Magic Kingdom Park on Monday, Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes punctuated the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl win with a magical celebration at Walt Disney World Resort.
After leading the Chiefs to victory Sunday night in Miami, Mahomes took a magical trip to Walt Disney World Resort. He experienced the groundbreaking new attraction Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, interacted with Disney characters and celebrated with fans during a festive parade at Magic Kingdom Park. Mahomes was joined by 18 Make-A-Wish children, including Nathaniel, 10, from Texas who rode in the parade, too.
The magical day for those Make-A-Wish kids added to the more than 140,000 wishes Disney has helped grant Make-A-Wish children facing serious illnesses. And more wishes are on the way after a post-Super Bowl announcement Sunday night that Disney Parks is donating $1 millon to Make-A-Wish in Mahomes’ honor.
Monday’s festivities continued a time-honored tradition of megastar athletes commemorating their greatest sports achievements at Disney theme parks, a magical ritual that began in 1987 when Disney celebrated the New York Giants’ Super Bowl win at Walt Disney World Resort. Following Sunday night’s victory, Mahomes shouted “I’m going to Disney World!” as the post-game confetti and cheers continued to fill the air.
Mahomes led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl win in 50 years. He rallied Kansas City from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win the big game, 31-20, leading the furious comeback with two touchdown passes. He hit Travis Kelce for a 1-yard score with 6:13 remaining, then on the Chiefs’ next possession found Damien Williams out of the backfield for what would prove to be the game-clinching touchdown. Mahomes finished with 286 yards passing and two TD passes, plus 29 rushing yards and another score on the ground.
