Summer Mentoring Program is Improving Communication Skills Among Young Girls

According to live5news.com, dozens of girls from Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties in South Carolina were able to take part in a mentoring camp aimed at improving their communication skills. Over 30 girls took part in “Worth Beyond Measure” a program ran by Youth Empowerment Services, Inc., (Y.E.S.), an organization with the goal of empowering middle and high school aged girls, and helping them embrace their own self worth leading to a healthier lifestyle. Six peer leaders served as both mentors and role models for the rest of the girls as they developed effective communication skills, reading comprehension, team building, career exploration, and other life changing topics. Besides the activities mentioned the girls also toured colleges, and performed educational activities as well. The organization says that the small group activities are, “thought-provoking, life-changing and relevant to the interests of today’s middle and high school girls.” The six week long program wrapped up over the weekend with a formal Princess Ball dinner on Saturday, in order to celebrate the progress the girls made throughout the program.
