Canadian punk rock band Sum 41 has released a compelling cover of Rage Against the Machine’s “Sleep Now in the Fire” as part of the Spotify Singles series. This release follows their farewell tour, which concluded in January 2025, marking a poignant moment in their nearly three-decade-long career.
In addition to the cover, Sum 41 offered an acoustic rendition of their original track “Landmines” from their final album, Heaven :x: Hell, released in March 2024. The band expressed gratitude towards their fans, stating, “Recording these Spotify Singles has been an incredible way to celebrate with our fans around the world.”
Sum 41 had previously performed “Sleep Now in the Fire” live, notably at France’s Hellfest Open Air in 2023. The studio version captures the band’s energetic interpretation of the 1999 Rage Against the Machine classic.
The band’s farewell tour was an elaborate spectacle, featuring a 130-minute set filled with pyrotechnics, confetti, and a journey through their extensive discography. Frontman Deryck Whibley acknowledged the band’s ups and downs, expressing genuine gratitude towards their fans.
As Sum 41 closes this chapter, their final recordings and performances serve as a testament to their enduring impact on the punk rock scene.
