Legendary rock band Styx has announced a lineup change, welcoming Terry Gowan as their new bassist. The band’s official Facebook page confirmed the addition following the departure of longtime member Ricky Phillips earlier this year.
Terry Gowan, the brother of Styx’s vocalist and keyboardist Lawrence Gowan, expressed his excitement about joining the band. “It is an honor and a dream come true to be joining JY, Tommy, Chuck, Will, and my brother Lawrence,” he stated. “Here’s to many years ahead on the Styx adventure!”
Lawrence Gowan also shared his enthusiasm: “I’m very pleased and proud to have my brother, Terry, join Styx. He’s played on four of my solo albums and toured with Gowan from 1985 to 1990 and again from 2010 to 2024. It’s great to have him aboard!”
The band, known for hits like “Come Sail Away” and “Renegade,” continues to perform over 100 shows annually. Guitarist Tommy Shaw and drummer Todd Sucherman both expressed their excitement about the new lineup, highlighting Terry’s musical talent and experience.
Ricky Phillips, who spent over 20 years with Styx, announced his departure in March, stating, “I’m taking a breather from the road. I’m not retiring, just taking a break.” Phillips plans to focus on a co-producing project close to home but assured fans he’ll return to live performances in the future.
Styx’s North American tour includes stops in Alabama, with performances scheduled for August 16 at The Wharf Amphitheater in Orange Beach and August 17 at Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville. Fans can expect the same electrifying performances with the newly revamped lineup.
