The snow of couture week has well and truly thawed, and the mood of Paris Fashion Week street style is positively spring-like, with bare arms and even shorts spotted off the runway. Away from the catwalk, the city is crowded with industry insiders rushing from show to show. From patchwork ensembles to oversized tailoring to bicycle shorts, Paris Fashion Week street style is all about the details – whether that’s an extravagant hair accessory or the new season It bag (think earthy shades and ’90s shapes).
Speaking of details seen on those French big city streets, a slit trouser really shows off your fancy footwear. Or try styling this season’s cycling shorts trend by choosing an all-white look and team with a simple blazer, chunky trainers and an oversized clutch. Or opt for leather on leather in earth tones and khaki green.
Pastels embody spring, an many on the streets of gay Paris got ready for the season by opting for feminine suits in a soft color like peach, minty greens, light blues or lavender shades. An unusual streetwear item for the season – the blanket. Seen styled like outerwear, wrapped around the body with colors that subtly match your outfit to make it look more together.
Perhaps the biggest surprise trend to take over Paris street fashion this season was chain mail. The 12th-century armor, originally a mesh made up of metal rings to protect the head and body, has been reimagined by many Paris showgoers, who are wearing the style in silver, gold and black as clothing, headwear and handbags.
Giving a nod to the medieval chainmail style, two showgoers were seen wearing the style as headwear, one with a black chain-link headpiece worn over a metallic silver headscarf and another wearing a silver chain-link headpiece with a matching handbag. Others went with more of a disco theme. Designer Michelle Elie wore a silver metallic sequined dress with a matching bag, while another paired a metallic gold chain-link top with a matching gold sequined skirt.
