On Wednesday, July 10th, Sting and Shaggy came together and graced the tiny desk stage for NPR’s latest Tiny Desk Concert.
The two music icons started the show with Sting’s 1987 track “Englishman In New York.” The second verse was re-written ala Shaggy’s roots. “I wear my colors in my back pocket/ I got a big spliff in my hand/ And you might notice there’s a swag any time I walk/ I’m a Jamaican in New York,” he sang, earning a ton of cheers.
Afterwards, Sting, who played bass alongside his longtime guitarist/collaborator Dominic Miller, exclaimed, “I never sang that song before 8:00 p.m. Ever!”
The duo continued the reggae-tinged goodness with “Don’t Make Me Wait” and “Shape Of My Heart,” which was mashed up with Juice Wrld’s “Lucid Dream,” sung by Gene Noble.
