Steve Lacy Performed ‘Bad Habit’ and ‘Helmet’ on Saturday Night Live

Just last weekend, Steve Lacy, made his debut on Saturday Night Live as the show’s musical guest. He performed his hit single “Bad Habit” and “Helmet.” Both tracks are off of Lacy’s Sophomore album, Gemini Rights, that released on July 15th through RCA Records. The 10 song album was a follow up to 2019’s Apollo XXI, and also has features from Fousheé and his Internet bandmate Matt Martians.

Lacy recently explained how, “It’s a story that is very fluid [and] very fun. To me, the subject matter could be sad if you look at it that way, but I feel like it is way more hopeful — and that’s the story: finding happiness. I’m finding myself after a heartbreak.”

Gemini Rights was able to reach the top of three Billboard charts, including Top Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative albums. It also achieved an opening at number 7 on the Billboard 200, selling 34,000 equivalent units in the first week alone. Lacy also got recognition for “BAd Habit” on the Billboard Hot 100 where it peaked at number one during the week of October 8th, taking down Harry Styles’ single “As It Was.”

The track helped Lacy achieve many firsts on the Hot 100 including his first chart topping track. He became the third male artist this year to do so without accompaniment. Lacy is currently on his headlining Give You The World Tour, Lacy is on his way towards award season with plenty of nominations. So far he has received a Best New Artist nod at the 2022 American Music Awards and the 2022 Soul Train Awards. He is also up for Song of the Year, The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award and Video of the Year. Lacy is also nominated for The New Artist of 2022 at the People’s Choice Awards.
