Reality star Spencer Pratt broke down in tears as he expressed gratitude to fans for a major milestone: his wife Heidi Montag’s debut album, Superficial, has climbed to No. 1 on iTunes, a remarkable 15 years after its initial release.
In a heartfelt TikTok video shared on Sunday, Pratt, 41, revealed the sacrifices they made to create the album, which debuted on January 10, 2010. “We spent all of our money on this album, Superficial,” he shared. “We weren’t trying to be reality stars; we were like, ‘We are gonna make Heidi a pop star.’”
The couple, who rose to fame on MTV’s The Hills, invested heavily in the project, using their earnings from the show to fund studio sessions with top-tier producers. “Do you know how many times we’ve cried and how much regret we’ve had about spending all of our money? For it to finally come out and be a f***ing hit—15 years later—it feels so good,” Pratt said, breaking into sobs.
A TikTok Revival
A sped-up version of “I’ll Do It,” a track from the 12-song album, has gone viral on TikTok, with stars like Emily Ratajkowski and Tana Mongeau calling it their “evacuation music.” The song’s newfound popularity helped drive Superficial to its belated chart-topping success, proving its cultural relevance over a decade later.
Tragedy Amid Triumph
The celebration came during a challenging time for the couple, who lost their Pacific Palisades home in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires last week. The fires, described by California Governor Gavin Newsom as “the worst natural disaster in U.S. history in terms of scale and scope,” have burned over 40,000 acres, destroyed more than 12,300 structures, and claimed 24 lives.
The wildfires have displaced over 150,000 residents, with damage estimates surpassing $135 billion, making them among the costliest in U.S. history.
A Legacy of Love and Resilience
Pratt and Montag have been married since 2008 and share two sons, Gunner and Ryker. Their relationship and career journey, chronicled on The Hills from 2006–2010, continue to resonate with fans. Montag co-led the hit series alongside Lauren Conrad, Audrina Patridge, and Whitney Port, with Pratt joining in the second season after meeting Montag in Los Angeles.
While Superficial initially debuted during the final season of The Hills, its recent resurgence underscores the power of persistence—and the enduring appeal of pop music with a loyal fanbase.
