Sotheby’s has announced the sixth sale dedicated to the Estate of Karl Lagerfeld.
According to their website, the auction house is “acting on behalf of the Estate Administrator, and is unveiling “a new chapter in its landmark series of sales dedicated to one of the most influential figures in contemporary fashion. This sixth instalment offers an unprecedented glimpse into Karl Lagerfeld’s private world, shedding light on his creative process and the many sources that fueled his imagination.”
For the first time, more than 1,000 previously unseen drawings and working documents will be offered in an online sale running July 2–8, providing a rare look into the discipline and creative process that shaped decades of fashion history. Carefully preserved throughout his life, these archives bear witness to an insatiably curious mind, collecting images, references and inspirations with near-obsessive dedication.
As L’Officiel reports, alongside the drawings, more than 200 electronics—including Lagerfeld’s famously extensive collection of iPods, which he used to organize music for runway presentations—will also be available. The auction also features personal belongings and mementos that offer a deeper look into the life and legacy of one of fashion’s most influential designers.
As in previous sales, Karl Lagerfeld’s unmistakable silhouette and distinctive way of life will be represented through his iconic fingerless gloves, personal belongings and a number of deeply moving mementos, offering a rare insight into the man behind the myth.
Offered entirely without reserve, this sale presents a unique opportunity to acquire a fragment of Karl Lagerfeld’s universe and to come closer than ever to the work of a visionary creator who, until his final days, continued to shape the image and legacy of the world’s greatest fashion houses.
Auction officially starts on July 1, CEST. Go to the Sotheby’s website to learn more and place your bid.
