Snoop Dogg is proving once again that criticism only fuels his creativity. After facing backlash for his performance at the Crypto Ball during President Trump’s inauguration earlier this year, the legendary rapper responded the only way he knows how: through music.
Snoop, 53, dropped his surprise new album Iz It a Crime? today, a record he says was born from the controversy and confusion surrounding his decision to perform. Speaking at a private event at Manhattan’s Privé House, Snoop shared, “It’s therapy for me to be able to express myself through my art.”
The album, featuring collaborations with Wiz Khalifa, Pharrell, and Sexyy Red, tackles the questions fans and critics have thrown at him over the past six months. During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Snoop emphasized that his performance wasn’t political. “I don’t represent the Republican Party. I don’t represent the Democratic Party. I represent the gangster party. Period,” he said.
Despite losing over 500,000 Instagram followers, Snoop remains undeterred. Fresh off the releases of Missionary and Altar Call, and with Death Row Records under his wing, Snoop is clearly entering a prolific and purposeful new chapter — making music when it truly matters.
