On Sunday, August 11th, it was reported that a 62 year-old man died after being transported from Slipknot’s Knotfest Roadshow concert at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Illinois.
In a recent interview, a spokesperson for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said that an autopsy has been completed on Richard Valdez, with the cause and manner of death pending further testing. “Mr. Valdez was pronounced dead at St. James Olympia Fields Hospital on August 11 at 11:34 p.m.,” the spokesperson says, citing Hollywood Casino as the incident location.
The next date on Slipknot’s tour is slated for Friday, August 16th, at the Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana. The 2019 edition of Knotfest featured Slipknot, Volbeat, Gojira and Behemoth.
A few weeks ago, on July 27, at the second Knotfest date at the San Manuel Amphitheater in San Bernardino, California, Slipknot singer Corey Taylor reportedly stopped the show to allow medics into the mosh pit after fearing fans were being injured. “No one is fucking getting hurt on my fucking watch, do you understand me? Back the fuck up!” he said in fan-shot video.
Spokespeople for the venue and Slipknot could not be reached for comment at press time.
