In a twist mirroring the drama of ‘Yellowstone,’ series creator Taylor Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch has filed a lawsuit against actor Cole Hauser’s coffee brand, Free Rein. The legal battle, taking place in the Northern District of Texas, centers around allegations of trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising, focusing heavily on the similarity of the companies’ logos.
The complaint accuses Free Rein of using a mark confusingly similar to the Bosque Ranch brand without authorization. This conflict arises as both parties have recently ventured into the coffee industry. Sheridan’s Weatherford-based ranch, in partnership with Community Coffee, launched its brew in June, while Hauser, known for his role as Rip Wheeler on ‘Yellowstone,’ started Free Rein in October, sourcing coffee from a long-standing San Antonio facility.
Meanwhile, the ‘Yellowstone’ saga continues with the final episodes of season 5 set to air in November 2024, marking Kevin Costner’s final appearance. Sheridan is also planning a sequel to the popular series, following its success and the launch of prequels like 1883 and 1923. Representatives for both parties have yet to comment on the ongoing legal dispute.
