Shenandoah Teams Up with Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean for New Version of “Sunday in the South”

Shenandoah’s timeless 1989 hit “Sunday in the South” has been given new life, thanks to a collaboration with country stars Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean. The reimagined version of the song comes with a heartfelt music video that blends nostalgic references with modern touches, celebrating both the song’s history and its enduring appeal.

A Nostalgic and Modern Video
Directed by Edde Brothers, the music video captures a cozy, small-town vibe. Shenandoah, Bryan, and Aldean are seen sharing coffee and camaraderie in the Country Boy Restaurant in Leipers Fork, Tennessee. The video also revisits Muscle Shoals landmarks featured in the original music video, tying the classic song’s roots to its fresh rendition.

Artist Reflections on the Collaboration
For Shenandoah’s lead singer, Marty Raybon, the collaboration with Bryan and Aldean was particularly special. “Having Jason and Luke on this song has certainly been a highlight for us,” Raybon said, adding that the track has always carried deep personal meaning for the band.

Luke Bryan shared how much the song influenced his own career. “My earliest memories of ‘Sunday in the South’ is that it was a song that was speaking exactly my life. This song shaped the way I thought about music and how I wanted to make music one day.”

Jason Aldean echoed Bryan’s sentiments, expressing his admiration for Shenandoah. “It’s just always an honor for us to get to work with these guys we grew up listening to,” he said.

The Legacy of “Sunday in the South”
Originally released in 1989, “Sunday in the South” was part of Shenandoah’s critically acclaimed album The Road Not Taken. The record also featured beloved hits like “Two Dozen Roses,” “See If I Care,” and “The Church on Cumberland Road.”

The song’s lyrics, steeped in Southern traditions and nostalgia, have resonated with generations of listeners, making it a fan favorite over the decades.

Shenandoah’s Collaborative Streak
This isn’t the first time Shenandoah has revisited their classics with today’s country stars. Earlier in 2024, the band joined forces with Luke Combs for a new version of their hit “Two Dozen Roses.”

A Celebration of Country Music Heritage
With its heartfelt vocals, timeless lyrics, and contributions from country music icons, the new version of “Sunday in the South” bridges generations of fans and artists. For longtime listeners and new fans alike, the collaboration is a testament to the enduring power of classic country music.
