Shania Twain is opening up about the heartfelt advice she shared with Jon Bon Jovi before he made one of the biggest decisions of his career.
The country superstar revealed that she encouraged Bon Jovi to seek treatment from the same surgeon who helped restore her own voice after Lyme disease damaged the nerves controlling her vocal cords. Knowing exactly what he was facing, Twain chose to be completely honest about the procedure, explaining that the surgery was invasive, recovery would take time and there were no guarantees it would restore his voice.
Twain underwent vocal fold medialization surgery in 2018 after years of struggling with vocal problems. Although the operation changed the sound of her voice, leaving it with a raspier tone, she says she has come to appreciate its unique character and is grateful to still be performing.
Bon Jovi later underwent the same procedure in 2022 after experiencing years of vocal difficulties. The rocker has credited Twain with helping him prepare for the experience through her openness and firsthand perspective, referring to her as his “spirit sister” because of the uncommon challenge they both faced.
Their shared experience has created a lasting bond between the two music icons. As Bon Jovi continues his recovery and return to the stage, Twain says she is proud to have been able to offer guidance during a difficult chapter that threatened one of rock’s most recognizable voices.
