Today, the Shamrock Shake and OREO Shamrock McFlurry are returning to McDonald’s locations nationwide, bringing their annual wave of minty treats with them. The seasonal treats, which typically only stick around for a few weeks each year, have become something of a cultural event for fast-food loyalists who treat the green shake like a limited-edition holiday.
As Delish reports, McDonald’s confirms that the Shamrock Shake is once again made with vanilla soft serve blended with Shamrock syrup and topped with whipped cream, while the OREO Shamrock McFlurry mixes that same minty base with cookie pieces. It’s the same formula fans know, love, and emotionally depend on every February.
And judging by social media, people are more than ready.
On McDonald’s official Instagram post announcing the return, commenters wasted no time celebrating. One fan wrote, “Give me all the minty goodness!!” summing up the general mood in six words. Another wrote, “Yesssss the universe is healing” and tagged friends with a message urging them not to miss out. Yet, there will always be haters, with one stating that “mint is disgusting unless you’re brushing your teeth.” Well…agree to disagree.
That kind of enthusiasm isn’t surprising. The Shamrock Shake has been a seasonal staple for decades, and for many people (including me), it’s tied to very specific memories. Late-night drives, after-school stops, and trying to squeeze in “just one more” before it disappears again.
McDonald’s hasn’t announced an exact end date for the seasonal menu, which usually means: Get it while you can. Historically, these items vanish as quickly as they appear, often leaving fans scrambling to fit in one last order.
So if you’ve been counting down to shamrock season, you’re not alone. Between the nostalgic pull, the social media hype, and people planning to be first in line, the return feels less like a menu update and more like a yearly ritual.
