Serena Williams Opens Up on Using GLP-1 Medication: “I Feel Light Physically and Mentally”

Serena Williams has courageously shared her journey with GLP-1 weight-loss medication, revealing she has lost over 31 pounds in eight months. Despite her athletic discipline and return to fitness after motherhood, Williams found herself unable to shed stubborn weight following the births of her daughters, Olympia (2017) and Adira (2023).

After thorough research and medical consultations, Williams began using Zepbound through Ro. Far from viewing it as a shortcut, she described the treatment as a complement to her rigorous workouts and healthy lifestyle. “GLP-1 helped me enhance everything that I was already doing—eating healthy and working out,” she shared, emphasizing that the medication helped where training alone fell short.

Along with tangible physical benefits—lighter joints, boosted energy, and improved mobility—Williams spoke of how the change allowed her to feel emotionally lighter. She added that it was important to be transparent about her experience to reduce stigma around such medications, especially for women who struggle despite their best efforts.

In a separate profile, she reinforced that GLP-1s should not bear shame. “Sometimes you need help… and it’s okay to make that choice,” she said.
