Selena Gomez has been named TikTok’s most popular artist in the United States for 2023, as revealed in the platform’s recent report. With a staggering following of nearly 60 million, Gomez leads the top 10 musicians on TikTok, including names like Ice Spice, Natalie Jane, Lizzo, and Ariana Grande. Her global influence is also notable, ranking second worldwide, surpassed only by Kim Loaiza, and ahead of sensations like Blackpink, Shakira, and BTS.
Gomez’s TikTok success is largely attributed to her engaging content, particularly a February video capturing her early morning flight preparations, which alone garnered over 24 million likes.
The year also saw Justine Skye’s 2014 hit “Collide” rise to fame on TikTok, with its sped-up version becoming the most-used sound in the U.S. This trend of accelerated tracks continued with Fifty Fifty’s “Cupid,” Partynextdoor’s “Her Way (Sped Up),” and Toosii’s “Favorite Song – Sped Up” also making the top list. Additionally, Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer,” PinkPantheress and Ice Spice’s “Boy’s a Liar, Pt. 2,” and Jain’s “Makeba” became viral sensations.
Globally, “Cupid” led with over 20 million creations, demonstrating the vast and varied influence of music on TikTok’s dynamic platform. As Adam Presser, TikTok’s Head of Operations, notes, these highlights reflect the inspiring, entertaining, and educational stories shared by over a billion people worldwide.
