Off the back of collaborations with Beats and Salomon, New York-based designer Sandy Liang is getting back in her clothing bag for Gap, and the new collab blends Liang’s signature girlhood-centric aesthetic with Gap’s classic silhouettes.
As Hypebae reports, the new collaboration features the brand’s icons, seen through an entirely new lens. Including bow-detailed denim and playful outerwear, the collection takes inspiration from the designer’s own memories of growing up and wearing Gap.
“Growing up, Gap was the pinnacle of fashion. It’s incredible that I get to co-create with such an iconic brand that I treasured so much as a child, yet is still so relevant today,” says Liang in a press release. “‘Sandy’s Dream Closet’ illustrates how wearing Gap made me feel growing up, as I imagined being an adult one day and who I could be. I wanted to take the pieces that meant something to me as a kid and reimagine them through my lens today — celebrating girlhood in all its forms, while honoring the iconic styles that make Gap so timeless,” she adds.
Standouts in the collection include the Pleated Denim Mini Skirt, Vegan Fur Crop Denim Jacket and the Heavyweight Bow Oversized Hoodie, along with the Bow-Back Trench Coat. Elsewhere, online exclusive versions of the collection include mini matching styles for babies and toddlers.
The accompanying campaign features an immersive short film, animated by visual artist Annie Choi and titled “Sandy’s Dream Closet.” Taking viewers on a journey to Liang’s childhood, the film captures the designer’s early dreams of being in fashion, with the Gap collaboration marking her end goal.
You can take a look at the collection via the Gap website and the line is available to purchase now.
