Ryan Gosling Embarks on a Cosmic Comedy in Project Hail Mary

Ryan Gosling is heading to the stars—reluctantly—in Project Hail Mary, a sci-fi adventure that’s equal parts thrilling and hilarious. Based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, the film follows Ryland Grace, an ordinary middle-school science teacher thrust into an extraordinary mission to save the sun—and life on Earth.

In the newly released trailer, Gosling’s character is recruited by Eva Stratt (Sandra Hüller) to travel 11.9 light-years away to solve a cosmic mystery. But Ryland’s response to the life-or-death assignment is anything but heroic: “I put the ‘not’ in ‘astronaut!’ ”

Waking from a coma aboard his spaceship with no memory of how he got there, Ryland soon faces his biggest surprise—a first-contact encounter with an alien who, despite initial fears, may just be a new friend.

Directed by the dynamic duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a screenplay by Drew Goddard (The Martian), Project Hail Mary promises a clever, heartwarming twist on the classic save-the-world narrative.

The film blasts into theaters and IMAX on March 20, 2026, positioning itself as one of the most anticipated sci-fi releases of the year.
