Royals Walk It Off in Wild Ninth After Bizarre Error Sparks Rally

In a game that hinged on a pop-up gone wrong, the Kansas City Royals snatched a dramatic 4–3 walk-off win against the Chicago White Sox Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium.

Down one in the ninth, Royals outfielder Drew Waters lofted a routine popup to second baseman Chase Meidroth — who dropped it, then watched it ricochet off his head and into shallow right field. An errant throw followed, and suddenly the Royals had life.

From there, chaos turned to confidence. Mark Canha’s leadoff walk lit the fuse. Freddy Fermin followed with a bunt single to load the bases, and Jonathan India drilled a game-tying shot up the middle. Then came Bobby Witt Jr., who sealed the comeback with a deep single to center, sending the Royals and their fans into a frenzy.

“Everyone else did their job, so I needed to do mine,” Witt said after the win, Kansas City’s fourth straight and 13th in 15 games.

Though the blunder may headline the highlight reel, the Royals’ resilience once again proved they’re playing with purpose — and belief — this season.

Winning baseball isn’t always pretty. Tuesday, it was unforgettable.
