Rotaract Club of Garden City Hosts Female Empowerment Weekend for 20 Young Girls

According to newsroom.gy, twenty young girls were able to take part in a weekend of activities that aimed to empower young women and break biases. The activities were organized by the Guyana Girl Guides Association in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of the University of Guyana for the weekend of October 15th and October 16th.

The activities were aimed to empower their abilities to make choices and create positive change within their own lives under the theme, “Empowered Girls become Empowered Women”. The event was launched at the Georgetown Club. A release from the Rotaract Club of the Garden City said that they, “focused on revealing the full potential of girls to shape the future of their communities, eliminate or appropriately deal with obstacles they face and create social awareness of the concept of Empower Girls Now”.

The attendees, whose ages varied between 13 and 17, found themselves engaged in various activities that aimed to help them build confidence and self-esteem through health and wellness exercises, improve their financial literacy and share experiences with peers. With the highlight for the weekend being a Vision Board activity where the girls imagined their futures in the next few years and created a board to reflect that. The release for the Vision Boards read, “With a sense of empowerment, the responses were limitless from traveling and wanting to learn Chinese, to furthering studies in vast fields, to becoming financially independent,”

The club’s Assistant Governor, Liz Cox, went to the event and advised the girls to be themselves and find their own voices while also managing to be an inspiration to others around them.
