Rihanna Sues Father for Exploiting Her Name

Rihanna is taking Ronald Fenty, her father, to court for allegedly exploiting her name with the motive “to solicit millions of dollars from unsuspecting third parties.”

In the lawsuit, which was filed yesterday, January 15th, in a California federal court and obtained by TMZ and The Blast, the singer claims that her father started a talent development company in 2017 called Fenty Entertainment to capitalize off her Fenty trademarks.

However, Rihanna has already trademarked “Fenty” for use in her business ventures, including her Fenty Beauty line. She claims her father and his business partner, Moses Joktan Perkins, falsely advertised themselves as her reps and tried to book her for 15 shows in Latin America in December 2017 for $15 million without her consent.

Additionally, Rihanna says that her father tried unsuccessfully to file a trademark for “Fenty” to use in connection with resort boutique hotels.

She has sent multiple cease and desist letters to her father, but he has ignored them and continues to profit off Fenty Entertainment. She is now seeking damages and has asked a judge to place an injunction on her father for using the name Fenty.
