Last season J.D. Martinez was one of the best right-handed hitters in baseball, so everyone has been surprised that he was a free agent going into mid-February. Well, that has changed as he has officially signed with an MLB team! Not surprisingly, the team that signed him is none other than the Boston Red Sox.
To land Martinez they signed him for five years and $110 million. The Red Sox put $50 of that contract into the first two seasons and gave him an opt out if he so pleases after those two years.
Last season, he hit .303 with 45 home runs and 104 RBI, making him one of the most intimidating hitters in baseball last season. Amazingly, he put up those numbers in just 119 games! We’re excited to see him play for the Red Sox and hopefully for a full season.
