Ray LaMontagne gave fans a frightening moment during a Nashville concert when the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter collapsed onstage in the middle of his performance.
The 53-year-old musician was appearing at the Ryman Auditorium on Saturday, September 5, as part of his Trouble 20th Anniversary Tour. While performing his 2004 song “Jolene,” LaMontagne suddenly fell backward, bringing the show to an unexpected halt.
Members of the crew quickly came to his aid, and the remainder of the concert was called off.
LaMontagne’s team later provided some reassuring news, reporting that the singer was receiving treatment from local emergency medical personnel for heat-related dehydration and was doing well following the incident.
The health scare ultimately did not keep LaMontagne away from the stage for long. He returned for his scheduled concert in Louisville, Kentucky, the following evening and reportedly completed the performance.
LaMontagne is currently marking a major milestone in his career with a tour celebrating his debut album, “Trouble,” which was originally released in 2004. The record helped establish the singer-songwriter’s distinctive folk and soul-influenced sound and launched a recording career that has now stretched across more than two decades.
His career later earned Grammy recognition when “God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise” won Best Contemporary Folk Album in 2011.
The anniversary tour began in Salt Lake City in August and is scheduled to continue through several major U.S. cities before wrapping up with a run of performances at New York City’s Beacon Theatre in October.
After an alarming end to his Nashville appearance, LaMontagne’s quick return to performing offered fans an encouraging sign that the incident had not derailed the anniversary tour.
