Rae Allen, Star of “The Sopranos,” “A League of Their Own,” Dies at 95

Rae Allen, the actress who played Aunt Quintina Blundetto in The Sopranos, has died at the age of 95.

The news was confirmed by Allen’s talent manager, who said she died Wednesday morning in her sleep from natural causes.

Allen, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1926, was on Broadway at the start of her career in 1947. She portrayed a number of memorable roles and was nominated for a Tony Award for her role as Gloria Thorpe in 1956’s Damn Yankees. She went on to win an honor for Best Featured Actress in a Play in 1971 for And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little, as well as another nomination for the same category in 1965 for Traveller Without Luggage.

On the silver screen, Allen portrayed Ma Keller in A League of Their Own and Barbara Shore, Ph.D. in Stargate. Her TV credits include The SopranosGrey’s AnatomyNYPD Blue, and Reign Over Me.

The actress is survived by her nieces Laura and Betty Cosgrove, her adopted family, and close friends April Webster and Lisa Ann Gold.
