Actress Rachel Brosnahan will direct a documentary film about the life and legacy of her late aunt, Kate Spade (née Katherine “Katy” Brosnahan).

As Deadline reports, the documentary is being produced by Brosnahan’s production banner Scrap Paper Pictures, in partnership with Fisher Stevens’ Highly Flammable and Connor Schell’s Words + Pictures. “Rachel is a remarkably talented storyteller and she has the most personal of connections to Kate Spade’s powerful story,” Schell said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be working with her as she directs her first film.”

As Town & Country reports, after Kate’s tragic death by suicide at age 55 in 2018, Brosnahan wrote in a tribute, “She had a light that words can’t capture but touched everyone she came into contact with. She was exceedingly kind, beautifully sensitive, insanely talented, funny as heck and one of the most generous people I have ever known. She was effervescent. Hug your loved ones extra tight today.” Last year, Brosnahan wrote on Instagram, “Sometimes you run out of things to say except I miss you. 6 years without Katy today.”

In 2019, Brosnahan became the face of Kate’s brand Frances Valentine. “In the wake of Katy’s passing, my family and I were so overwhelmed and encouraged by the love and support we received from those who were touched by Katy’s work, many of whom were strangers from around the world,” she told People at the time. “When you lose someone you love, you search for boundless ways to keep their memory alive. This felt like a way to do that through her beautiful creations and an opportunity to share them with all of those who her work meant so much to.”

Brosnahan, who is perhaps best known for her Emmy-winning leading role on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, recently starred as Lois Lane in Superman, and is set to appear in the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, the second season of Presumed Innocent on Apple, and the forthcoming romance film Saturn Return on Netflix.

Further details about the documentary have yet to be revealed.
