Queens of the Stone Age have announced the cancellation of eight European tour dates due to lead singer Josh Homme needing to return to the United States for emergency surgery. The band shared the news on social media, expressing their regret over the cancellations and explaining the urgency of the situation.
“QOTSA regret to announce that Josh Homme must return to the United States immediately for emergency surgery,” read the statement. “Every effort was made to push through and play for you, but it is no longer an option to continue.”
The canceled shows include performances at festivals in France and Slovakia, as well as headline shows in Croatia and Greece. The band had previously canceled their appearance at the AMA Festival in Italy on July 5 due to illness. Despite the cancellations, the band’s website still lists dates for August shows in Europe and North American gigs that run through November.
While specific details about the surgery have not been disclosed, Homme has been open about his health struggles in the past. In 2022, he was diagnosed with a form of cancer and underwent surgery to have it removed.
Queens of the Stone Age released their first album in six years, “In Times New Roman…,” in 2023, followed by the announcement of The End is Nero tour for North America and a set of European dates. Despite the current setbacks, the band has scheduled performances in Australia, North America, and Europe for later this year.
Fans are undoubtedly disappointed by the news but are sending their best wishes to Homme for a speedy recovery. The band promises to keep fans updated and hopes to reschedule the canceled dates in the future.
