Prince Rogers Nelson was a Minneapolis native and incredible singer, songwriter and music icon that died last week at the age of 57. Prince sold over 100 million records, winning nearly every music award handed out, from Grammy to Billboard, Brit and beyond. Prince was music royalty! Prince was also a wonderful song writer, sharing his musical children to the delight of others. Here are a few songs written by Prince, and the backstory that made them their hits.
Who doesn’t love the Stevie Nicks song “Stand Back?” Yup, that’s a Prince Song! Technically the song was written by Stevie, but in the car after one of her weddings, she heard the song “Little Red Corvette” and was so moved she took out pen and paper and wrote “Stand Back” on her wedding day.
“The Glamorous Life” by the late Sheila Escovedo (Shelia E) was a song that was written by Prince as he was shaping her career. Prince had often taken promising young singers under his wing and Shelia E was one of his favorites.
Finally, Chaka Khan’s “I Feel for You,” “Nasty Girl” by Vanity 6, “Love Song” by Madonna, “With This Tear” by Celine Dion, and Alicia Key’s “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore,” were all written by the late and great Prince.
