Presley Gerber, the model and son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, has died at 27 as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Gerber died Sunday, September 20, at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, California. Police responded to the facility after receiving a report of a possible overdose. Authorities are investigating the death as a suspected overdose and have said there is currently no indication of foul play.
An official cause of death has not been determined.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner conducted an examination the following day but deferred its determination of both the cause and manner of death while additional testing is completed. Officials have cautioned that the process could take several months.
Gerber was born into one of fashion’s best-known families but established a modeling career of his own. The son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, he began modeling as a teenager and went on to work with several major international fashion brands.
His younger sister, Kaia Gerber, followed a similarly high-profile path in modeling and acting.
Away from the runway, Presley increasingly used his public platform to discuss subjects that were considerably more personal. He spoke openly about depression, addiction and the difficulties he encountered while trying to improve his mental health.
Those conversations became an increasingly visible part of his public life. In 2025, he launched a social media series focused on mental health and encouraged more candid conversations about emotional struggles.
Gerber also publicly described the complicated process of seeking treatment. He discussed his experiences with psychiatric medication and expressed a desire for greater structure and guidance from medical professionals. By late 2025, he said he had stopped drinking as part of an effort to change his life.
His search for recovery continued into 2026. Earlier this year, Gerber documented a trip to Mexico where he underwent ibogaine treatment, describing the experience as another step in confronting problems he had been trying to overcome.
His willingness to discuss those struggles became an important part of his public identity, alongside the fashion career and famous family that had initially put him in the spotlight.
Gerber’s death remains under investigation, and authorities have not established an official medical cause. Until the medical examiner completes additional testing, reports of an overdose remain part of the police investigation rather than a final determination.
Gerber is survived by his parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, and his sister, Kaia Gerber. His family has requested privacy as they mourn his death.
