There are many ‘Hall of Fames…’ Canada has its own. Song writers have a Hall of Fame, every state in the Union, the Grammy’s, the NAACP, and BET all have Hall of Fames. Not to be outdone, the America’s Pop Music Hall of Fame announced its latest inductees, and this honor will be bestowed to Neil Sedaka, Barry Manilow, The Temptations, Barbra Streisand, The Grass Roots, Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Lettermen and the Association, and Three Dog Night. Let’s focus on each of them is a three part series we’d like to call “Pop To The Hall.”
Neil Sedaka was born in Brooklyn in 1939, and is a by-product of the Doo Wop and Brill Building era. Neil has written more than 500 songs, including “Love Will Keep Us Together” by the Captain and Tennille, Carol King, and Elton John.
What can you say about Barbra Streisand? Barbara broke all the rules for women in the mid-60s by being a star on film and Broadway, winning countless Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Toni awards, and is only one of two people to have also won a Peabody award. Barbra has sold over 100 million records worldwide, and is estimated to have a net worth of over half a billion.
Paul Revere and the Raiders came out of Boise, Idaho in the late 50s, and had the best hooks in the music business, with “Him or Me,” “Hungry,” “Indian Reservation,” and more top selling singles. Mark Lindsay joined the band as they began to enjoy success (Leon Russell would often fill in on piano on the road). The Paul Revere of the band died at the age of 75 in 2014.
