Playboi Carti’s MUSIC Becomes 2025’s First Platinum Rap Album

Playboi Carti is proving that anticipation pays off. His third studio album, MUSIC, has officially surpassed one million copies sold, making it the first rap album of 2025 to reach platinum status. The milestone arrives just three months after its March 14 release, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with a massive 300,000 first-week sales — the biggest opening for a rap project this year.

MUSIC marks a defining moment in Carti’s career, nearly tripling the debut of his 2020 album Whole Lotta Red, which moved 100,000 units in its first week. Despite a long hiatus, Carti’s popularity has only intensified — a rare feat in the fast-moving world of hip-hop.

While Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s $ome $exy $ongs 4 U also crossed the million mark, its genre-blending nature leans heavily into R&B. In contrast, MUSIC stands as a pure rap juggernaut.

Currently opening for The Weeknd on the latter’s final North American tour leg, Carti has kept fans buzzing despite missing a few Canadian stops due to “border crossing issues.” He also made a standout appearance on JACKBOYS 2, keeping momentum high.

With MUSIC cementing Carti’s dominance, fans are hoping the next album doesn’t take another four-year wait.
