Get ready for a hauntingly good time as Pixies have announced their brand new album, “The Night the Zombies Came,” set to drop just in time for Halloween on October 25th via BMG.
As its title and release date suggest, the album is inspired by the spooky season. The 13-track LP draws from an eclectic mix of influences including Druidism, apocalyptic shopping malls, medieval-themed restaurants, 12th-century poetic forms, surf rock, gargoyles, bog people, and the distinctive dry drum sound of 1970s-era Fleetwood Mac, according to a press release.
Frontman Black Francis adds a unique twist with the newly released single, “Chicken,” where he personifies poultry, contemplates decapitation, and channels the spirit of a zombie movie actor. The accompanying lyric video for “Chicken” sets the tone for the eerie and whimsical themes of the album. Pixies previously teased fans with the lead single “You’re So Impatient.”
“The Night the Zombies Came” also marks the band’s first album recorded with new bassist Emma Richardson, formerly of Band of Skulls, who replaced Paz Lenchantin earlier this year.
In addition to the new album, Black Francis, a.k.a. Frank Black, recently announced a 2025 North American tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of his sophomore solo album, “Teenager of the Year.”
Fans of Pixies and Halloween alike have much to look forward to with this creatively charged and seasonally inspired release.
