Phish has clinched the top spot in the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Fan Vote, amassing over 330,000 votes and outpacing runner-up Bad Company by nearly 50,000.
The Vermont-based jam band, known for their improvisational live performances and dedicated fanbase, now joins the top seven fan-voted artists—Bad Company, Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper, Joe Cocker, Soundgarden, and Chubby Checker—on a collective “fan ballot.” This ballot counts as one of approximately 1,200 total votes cast by a body comprising artists, historians, and industry professionals.
While winning the Fan Vote doesn’t guarantee induction, history suggests a favorable outcome. Since the Fan Vote’s inception in 2013, 11 of the 12 winners have been inducted in the same year. The exception was Dave Matthews Band in 2020, who, despite securing over a million votes, were not inducted until 2024.
Phish’s nomination, their first since becoming eligible in 2014, underscores their enduring influence in the music industry. The band’s extensive discography includes 38 albums charting on the Billboard 200, with three reaching the Top 10, despite having no Billboard Hot 100 hits.
The final list of inductees will be announced during a special episode of American Idol on April 27, with the induction ceremony slated for the fall in Los Angeles.
