Following their Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles are poised to continue the tradition of championship teams visiting the White House. Despite earlier reports suggesting the team might decline an invitation, recent statements indicate the Eagles are open to the visit.
A source within the organization expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We would be honored to visit the White House.” This sentiment aligns with the team’s desire to partake in the customary celebration of their achievement.
As of now, no official invitation has been extended by President Donald Trump’s administration. A White House official confirmed, “The invites haven’t even gone out.”
This development contrasts with the aftermath of the Eagles’ 2018 Super Bowl win, when a planned White House visit was canceled due to disagreements over players’ protests during the national anthem. At that time, President Trump rescinded the invitation, citing the team’s differing views on standing for the anthem.
Currently, the decision to attend a potential White House ceremony will be left to individual players. However, the organization as a whole has expressed interest in participating in the event, should an invitation be extended.
