Bassist and former member of supergroup GTR and Right Said Fred has passed away at 65 years old on Monday, February 6th. Spalding was born on November 19th, 1957, in London and started off as a child model before advancing in music in his teen years. From 1980 to 1983 he played with Toyah, a new wave band fronted by Toyah Willcox.
Meanwhile, in 1985, Spalding joined GTR along with Hackett, Yes’ Steve Howe, singer Max Bacon, and drummer Jonathon Mover. Eventually leading to a number 11 hit on the Billboard 200 and top 20 single “When the Heart Rules the Mind.”
Spalding also lent his talent to Up, the debut album from pop group Right Said Fred, which had the classic hit “I’m Too Sexy.” He remained active late into his career, and even joined The Who for a few intimate acoustic shows in Kingston, London, in 2020.
