PGA Tour Suspends 17 Golfers

Only an hour after LIV Golf teed off for its very first Invitational Series event on Thursday, The PGA Tour Handed down 17 suspensions to players who previously were involved in the PGA Tour. Jay Monahan the commissioner for the PGA Tour stated that any players participating in this or any future LIV Golf Events will not be allowed to play on the PGA Tour. Monahan did not state how long the suspensions of these players would be for, however the list includes some big names, including Phil Mickelson. According to Monahan, by participating in the LIV Golf Invitational Series these players were “turning their backs on the PGA Tour”. The suspension includes ineligibility for all tours that are sanctioned by the PGA Tour and will also be removed from the FedEx Cup points list. The LIV Golf tour responded to the suspensions via a statement, “Todays announcement by the PGA Tour is vindictive and it deepens the divide between the Tour and its members,” This definitely won’t be the last statement by either organization on the topic as more opportunities arise for golfers.
