Pedro Pascal Shares Reasoning Behind Changing His Name

Several celebrities have changed their stage names to make it easier for others to pronounce, and Pedro Pascal is no exception. Before he was known as Pedro Pascal, he went by his birth name, Pedro Balmaceda. In an interview with Esquire, Pedro revealed that he lost his mother when he was 24 years old. As a tribute to her, he decided to change his last name from his father’s last name “Balmaceda” to “Pascal,” which is his mother’s birth name.

In addition to honoring his late mother, Pedro also changed his last name because Americans found it difficult to pronounce “Balmaceda.” In a separate interview with Variety, he said it was “exhausting” to constantly have to correct people on the pronunciation of his last name.

This is similar to other celebrities, such as Mindy Kaling, Aaron Paul, and Theo James, who all changed their names for similar reasons. It’s a fun fact to know about Pedro Pascal and the meaning behind his stage name.
