Pearl Jam, the seminal rock band hailing from Seattle, has ignited the music world with the announcement of their upcoming album “Dark Matter” and a series of tour dates that mark their return to the Seattle stage after a six-year hiatus. The band’s 12th studio album, set for release on April 19, is already generating buzz as frontman Eddie Vedder declares it potentially their “best work” yet. This new project, the first since 2020’s “Gigaton,” comes after a period of speculation and teases from the band, culminating in the release of the album’s energetic title track.
“Dark Matter” was brought to life in Malibu’s Shangri-La studio with the help of producer Andrew Watt, known for his work with rock legends and pop superstars alike. Watt, a self-proclaimed Pearl Jam superfan, adds a fresh yet reverent touch to the band’s sound. The collaboration is a full-circle moment for Watt, who, as a teenager, received advice from Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready—a moment that has since become a cherished anecdote within the band’s lore.
The album’s announcement was accompanied by details of a North American tour, featuring two pivotal shows at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena on May 28 and May 30, with indie rockers Deep Sea Diver opening. These performances come as a follow-up to the band’s 2018 Home Shows, which raised over $11 million for local homelessness initiatives and showcased Pearl Jam’s deep connection with their Seattle fanbase.
“Dark Matter” is now available for pre-order, with a special edition set to be released in conjunction with Record Store Day. As fans eagerly anticipate the band’s tour and the chance to experience new music live, Pearl Jam continues to reinforce their legacy as rock icons and beloved hometown heroes.
