Pearl Jam Headed to the Hall of Fame

The 32nd Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn April 7th, and the 2017 inductees are Yes, Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Pearl Jam, and Tupac Shakur.

Pearl Jam is getting in on the very first year eligibility, which is an amazing accomplishment. Did you know that they were originally named after a NBA player? Yup, the band called themselves ‘Mookie Blaylock.’

Talk about lineup changes, by the time they had created their debut album they had already gone through three drummers. The album was recorded in March and April of 1991. The drummers were Dave Abbruzzese, Dave Krusen, and Matt Chamerblain. All of the drummers (all five) have been invited to the ceremony.

You would think that grunge peer Kurt Cobain would like them, given they originate from the same part of the country, and that grunge was a small portion of rock. He didn’t, in fact he despised them.

The song “Oceans” is a very popular tune, written while Eddie Vedder was accidentally locked out of the studios during a rainstorm.
