Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega Star in A24’s Dark Comedy ‘Death of a Unicorn’

A24 has unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming dark comedy, Death of a Unicorn, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega. The film is set to premiere at the South by Southwest Festival on March 8, 2025, with a theatrical release scheduled for March 28.

Directed by Alex Scharfman, Death of a Unicorn follows father-daughter duo Elliot and Ridley, portrayed by Rudd and Ortega, who accidentally hit a unicorn with their car en route to a corporate retreat. The retreat is hosted by Elliot’s employer, billionaire Dell Leopold, played by Richard E. Grant. Upon discovering the unicorn’s carcass, Leopold seeks to exploit its mystical properties for profit. However, their actions trigger dire consequences as the unicorn’s mate embarks on a vengeful rampage.

The ensemble cast also includes Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Anthony Carrigan, and Sunita Mani. The film’s score is composed by Dan Romer and Giosuè Greco, adding to the movie’s unique atmosphere.

The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into the film’s blend of dark humor and horror elements, drawing comparisons to classics like Jurassic Park for its portrayal of humans facing the wrath of a formidable creature.

Death of a Unicorn marks Scharfman’s directorial debut and continues A24’s tradition of delivering innovative and genre-blending cinema. Audiences can anticipate a thrilling and darkly comedic experience when the film hits theaters this spring.
