In 1997, Paul McCartney was knighted by the Queen of England, adding the ‘Sir’ to his name when addressed. It’s a pretty impressive honor (the closest here might be the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award).
We now hear that Paul has been appointed an Order of the ‘Companion of Honour’ as part of Great Brittan’s Monarch celebration. The award celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Companions of Honour, which began in 1917 by King George IV.
Notable Companions with this honor include Dame Maggie Smith, Stephen Hawking, Dame Judi Dench, and author J. K. Rowling. Paul is 75 this year, and likely have a rocking year filled with good memories, but it’s his 59th birthday that will always stick in his mind. Paul was flying into New York the morning of September 11, 2001 and actually saw the 2nd plane hit the WTC.
Paul has lived his adult life through our eyes, rising to fame and fortune with the Beatles in the mid-60s, loosing his wife Linda to cancer, multiple marriages and more. His net worth is just north of $660 billion!
