Alternative music sensation Paramore is set to honor the legacy of the iconic Talking Heads as part of a tribute album, a collaborative project with A24. This venture aligns with the 40th anniversary of the Talking Heads’ seminal concert film “Stop Making Sense,” which A24 recently re-released and restored.
Paramore, comprising Hayley Williams, Taylor York, and Zac Farro, teased their contribution with a cover of “Burning Down the House,” a hit from the Talking Heads’ 1983 album “Speaking in Tongues.” A shared Instagram clip by both Paramore and A24 features Williams, bringing a nostalgic touch by showcasing a replica of David Byrne’s oversized suit from the concert film, further solidifying the tribute’s authenticity.
The teaser, directed by AJ Gibboney and Farro, ends with a glimpse of Paramore’s rendition of the new wave classic, stirring excitement among fans. The A24 announcement reveals that the compilation album will include “16 tracks from 16 artists,” though details of other participating artists remain under wraps.
Paramore’s engagement with the Talking Heads extends beyond this tribute album. Byrne’s presence at one of their Madison Square Garden concerts in 2023 and his interaction with the band highlighted a mutual admiration. In a Vogue interview, Williams recalled Byrne’s visit as a memorable event.
Furthermore, Paramore revealed at The New Yorker Festival panel that they have an
unreleased collaboration with Byrne, initially intended for their 2023 album “Re: This Is Why.” Williams teased that the collaboration was “incredible” and “unreal,” indicating a future release that fans can eagerly anticipate.
This project marks a significant moment for Paramore, who recently ended a 20-year contract with Atlantic Records and wiped their social media clean, sparking rumors of a split. However, their involvement in the Talking Heads tribute album and the unreleased collaboration with Byrne affirm their continued presence and evolution in the music industry. This homage to Talking Heads not only celebrates the influence of the new wave pioneers but also showcases Paramore’s versatility and respect for musical legends.
