Called “Encore,” the new initiative will extend the life and utility of exceptional vintage pieces. The brand is working with individual clients and reputable vintage sellers to curate an exclusive selection of one-of-a-kind Oscar de la Renta pieces.
The resale market is bigger than ever, and the progression of resale fashion has been swift and explosive, with brands one-upping each other in the name of sustainability, new faces and good press. There are more than 50 fashion companies that have recently entered or invested in resale, including luxury brands like Burberry and mass brands like Levi’s, retailers such as Nordstrom, and fast-fashion players like H&M. And traction has dramatically increased since early efforts in 2014. Brands tend to believe that resale can bring them new customers, new streams of revenue and sustainability. But for powerhouse brand Oscar de la Renta, it’s about paying homage to its storied past—and allowing customers to shop from the archives.
Offering fans of the brand a selection of styles from the well-curated closets of clients, collectors, and the finest vintage boutiques, Encore by Oscar de la Renta was created to celebrate the house’s iconic pieces. The digital platform features items that have been authenticated by in-house specialists, and then reworked to not only extend the life of the product, but allow customers across generations the chance to shop styles from the last few decades. In addition to gowns and kaftans, there is archival jewelry to choose from too.
As for those who are interested in selling their pieces on the site, you have the option to receive payment in the form of cash or store credit, should you want to give your wardrobe a refresh. The house is also giving you the chance to donate a portion of your sale to one of its charities. The list includes Habitat for Humanity, Dress for Success, World Central Kitchen, and The Colleagues of Los Angeles.
